Rebecca Nash featured in Fort Erie Post for 'Windows on the War of 1812' Exhibition

As some of you may already know, over the last 2 years I have had the pleasure of being an exhibiting photographic artist alongside the talented painter Stephen J. Arthurs in our exhibition 'Windows on the War of 1812'.

Last month during the exhibition of 'Windows on the War of 1812' at Under the Moon Fine Arts in Ridgeway, Ontario the Fort Erie Post featured a great article on our exhibition and I'm thrilled to share it with you today.

On Etsy: Photographic Greeting Cards

Earlier this month I launched a new line of products at the summer markets and in my Etsy Fine Art Shop. The product? Blank Fine Art Note or Greeting Cards featuring 5 different images from the collection! I'm thrilled to say these products have had a hugely positive response right out of the gate.

Today I'm here to share a little more about this new line and why it's been introduced!

Where did the idea come from?

To be honest the idea came from you. From the people who visit my blog, my shop, and even more so those who visit me at the markets.

Why did I create them?

The markets have become a place where I can get great feedback on my current work, what you would like to see in the future, and ideas for expanding the lines. It was at one of these markets that I was asked about greeting cards. When I referred the lovely lady to my notecard collections she expressed a need for single blank greeting cards where she could support local when she had birthday cards, get well cards, anniversary cards and even sympathy cards to send.

The more I thought about it, the more it just seemed to make sense.

I am a photographic artist, but I am also a lover of the written word. I love books, writing hand written notes and receiving something in the mail (other than bills). In the digital age, isn't it still something special to recieve a beautiful card with a thoughtfully written note from friends, family, or co-workers?

What to expect?

Each card features a single image on the front and a blank interior. They are printed on beautiful stock with a smooth finish to make for an easy to write on surface (I love a textured fine art paper for my prints but when it comes to writing, smooth is best). Each individual card comes packaged in a protective plastic sleeve with an envelope (and a business card so you can let me know what you think).

But what do they cost?

Just $5.00! That's right, just $5.00 CDN gets you one of these beautiful cards. That's less than going to Hallmark, or even the pharmacy! Plus, you get the artwork of a local artist and have supported arts in the community.

So where do I find them?

You can find me in person at the Masonville Farmers Market Every Friday in August or hop over to the Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/rebeccanashphoto to check out these cards and more fine art prints from Rebecca Nash Photography. *Keep an eye for new images on cards coming later this month!

Yes that's right, I was scared! I still am.

It's scary! I guess putting yourself out there always is but unlike my wedding photography where people hired me to create emotional photographic art of their wedding day, with my fine art photographs I'm putting out there my own view on the world, my own ideas on beauty, and my own personal style. Talk about frightening!

At every step of the way I was bombarded with the familiar questions:

  • What if no one likes it?
  • What if they say mean things?
  • What if they don't see any value?
  • What if my own image of myself as an artist is shattered?
  • What if I'm just wasting time and money on creating my art?

but I forged ahead anyways!

First, I started learning more about Etsy and reopened my shop. (www.etsy.com/shop/rebeccanashphoto)

Slowly but surely I added new pieces. I updated policies. I created descriptions that actually shared something.

Then the even more terrifying part...I needed to promote it.

When I was building the shop it was easy to say 'of course I have no traffic or sales, I haven't told anyone about it yet' but what would happen when I did put it out there?

Slowly I started sharing. Views went up, then a few favourites started popping up, then my first sale, and even a few treasury inclusions.

Deep breath, okay, people don't hate it. Some of them even seem to like my work. What now?

This month I took another scary step...I signed up for a booth at the Ogilvies Food & Artisan Market to sell my work in person to people. Admittedly, I convinced my fiance Ross of Ross Emerson Photography to join me in this endeavor of selling at the market.

On June 28th & 29th we set up our first booth. Traffic was steady and people were interested to see who we were and what we had to offer. We even had our first print sale!

On July 5th & 6th there I was at the market again. This time without Ross at my side but feeling much more confident.

Now I'm excited to announce that the art from Rebecca Nash Photography & Ross Emerson Photography will be available here in London more often!

Come check out our art in person and share your favourites.

So far, You can find us...

  • Friday July 11th at the Masonville Farmers Market 8am-2pm
  • Saturday July 12th & Sunday July 13th at Olgivies Food & Artisan Market 9am-4pm
  • Friday July 18th (My Birthday) at the Masonville Farmers Market 8am-2pm
  • Friday July 25th at the Masonville Farmers Market 8am-2pm
  • Saturday July 26th & Sunday July 27th at Olgivies Food & Artisan Market 9am-4pm
  • Saturday August 9th & Sunday August 10th at Olgivies Food & Artisan Market 9am-4pm

...but watch for more dates and locations!

Joining from outside London or can't make it to the market? Be sure to stop by the Etsy Shop at www.etsy.com/shop/rebeccanashphoto and take advantage of coupon code "SUMMERSUNSHINE" for 20% off your order (before tax & shipping)

It's back! The Etsy shop returns with new art and support for a great cause!

Over a year ago, I bid goodbye to the Rebecca Nash Photography Etsy store and created a store located here on the site.

In retrospect, this was unnecessarily challenging both for setting up and customs to use. So, after some feedback and thought, the Rebecca Nash Photography Etsy store is back!

What will you find on the Rebecca Nash Photography Etsy store? - Exhibition Originals from group & juried art exhibitions, and the traveling exhibition "Windows on the War of 1812" - Limited Edition Prints of some of my favourite images - Exclusive Image Launches that will not be offered anywhere else - Gift Certificates that can be used for artwork or services - Gift items including stationary sets, portfolios, and more (Coming Soon)

As if that wasn't enough excitement, for the months of April & May you get the bonus of purchase beautiful art for your home or office AND support a great cause. How?

All proceeds from sales in Apr & May (after shipping costs) will go directly to supporting the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation through the 2014 Embridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Find out more about the ride and why I got involved at www.conquercancer.ca/goto/rebeccanash

Thank you for all your love and support for both the art, plus fundraising for an amazing cause with this challenging ride.

Do You Showcase Your Artwork With Style?

There's no question that I'm passionate about Photography. This is what I do! This is what I love! This is how I celebrate life! Does this sound familiar? You pick out a photographer, you both spend a great deal of time and energy getting the experience just right, and you chose to invest in the artwork you've created together. Then, you take these beautiful pieces of personal photographic art home and it sits in the packaging it came in while you figure out what to do with it.

Here's my solution for you - Custom Framing!

I absolutely love the personality of these beautiful handmade Canadian frames.

The next time you are celebrating with beautiful photographic art here's what I want to do for you

1) Come into your home (in person or virtually) & help you choose a location to showcase your new artwork

2) Design a wall display that fits your decor & style

3) Help you selecting the most complimentary wardrobe for everyone involved

4) Then, and only then, bring you in studio (or on location) and shoot to fill those frames with the perfect artwork for you and your home

Which of these frames do you love most and where would you put it?

Alright, unless you're new to this blog, you definitely aren't new to my BlogHer12 Sponsor Shannon from Sweet Stellas (www.sweetstellas.blogspot.com). The Art Exchange - Square Foot Show Opening Gala

Friday night was the Opening Reception for the first annual Square Foot Show and Exhibition at the Art Exchange. I was thrilled to be able to share the evening with not only my other half Ross and daughter Alyssa (first time she's come to an opening) but also with my friend and fellow artist Shannon from Sweet Stella's who was also exhibiting. The Art Exchange kicked off the new Juried Art show this year in celebration of 15 years in business and the opening of a second location in Wortley Village. (Find out more about this in the article from The Londoner here)

I included three new pieces in the show this year as seen below. I had a hard time selecting images or even a theme to work from so I selected three unrelated images.

Admittedly, I love this last piece. I had so much fun creating it, and it came together so perfectly without direction, however, I think one of the best parts for me was seeing it hanging on the wall of the Art Exchange...why? Well, the adorable model is none other than Shannon from Sweet Stella's little bear Owen.

It made it really cool to have it hanging, have Shannon at the opening, and...one of Shannon's paintings hanging on the same wall. Yes I'm a mushy geek but it was great!

Westcott's Shootout Contest Results are out!

I'm excited and want to share some great news!

Back in May Ross and I spent the weekend in Toronto for the Exposure Show put on by Henry's Camera and Henry's School of Imaging. Throughout the weekend the awesome team from F.J.Westcott had shooting bays set up with new models and scenes set up everyday as part of their Shootout Contest.

Results have just been released and....I have been honoured with 3rd Prize in the Category of "Best Composition & Lighting" with the following image!

Check out all the wonderful winning images on the Westcott Blog

A Square Foot - What would you create?

If a piece of 12x12 paper or canvas was set out in front of you, what could you do with it?

I heard about this Juried exhibition back in January when I was participating in the Miniature Show at the Art Exchange here in London, Ontario.  For me it was such an interesting idea - I so rarely crop my images square. Most film (though not all) created rectangular images, now with digital cameras, the images automatically come out rectangle but why couldn't they be square? I couldn't see any reason why not.

So I entered the exhibition and created three square images to show. I hope you'll come out and join us! Closer to the date I will reveal my three square images and the stories behind them! Check back soon!

Media Release: Local Photographer Includes Products in Celebrity Swag Bags for MTV Movie Awards

MEDIA RELEASE

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER INCLUDES PRODUCTS IN CELEBRITY SWAG BAGS FOR MTV MOVIE AWARDS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 1, 2012

LONDON, ON – Local photographer, Rebecca Nash of Rebecca Nash Photography, has been chosen as one of 40 artisans (and one of only a few Canadians) to include items in the celebrity swag bags at the MTV Movie Awards on June 3, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA.  Plus, her products will be on display in the Gifting Suite where celebrities can have their photos taken with the displays.

As a member of the celebrity gifting organization, known as the Artisan Group, Nash has designed a new line of fine art products complete with new packaging.  “My fine art work usually comes in large sizes, from 8”x12” upwards, so when I was told my items could be  no larger than 5”x7” and packed as flat as possible, I knew I had to come up with a new design that was easily replicable,” said Nash.  Each artisan is required to donate 100 items.

To accommodate the size restrictions, Nash designed stationery sets. Celebrities will receive a portrait case trimmed in ribbon. Inside is a set of four 4”x5” blank note cards with fine art photos on the cover, corresponding envelopes, and a gift certificate for a full set of twelve note cards with a choice of themes.

“It’s a thrill to be included in such a huge event. More than any repeat business, I hope to receive photos of celebrities holding my new products as they’ll be a fabulous endorsement to use on my Web site and in promoting the new line of products,” said Nash.

Along with Nash’s note cards, celebrities will receive a variety of handmade gifts of stationery, jewellery, bath products, etc. from the artists of the Artisan Group. At the 2012 Golden Globes, attendees received an estimated $1,300USD worth of products in this one swag bag alone.

With a studio in London, Nash specializes in portraits, weddings, and fine art pieces.  She will be making a limited quantity of her celebrity gift available through her Web site www.rebeccanashphotography.com and the etsy store at www.rebeccanashphoto.etsy.com  the month prior to the MTV Movie Awards.

MTV Movie Award Fridays: Assembling the packages!

I fully admit this was my least favorite part of the whole process. I'm so eager to have everything ready and shipped.Every step of the process has allowed for my creativity but this one.

It is a pleasure to see my work completed, to see the way the pieces have come together, and to know that soon these new items will be in the hands of the celebs. I cannot wait until these items are shared!

Feeling the Love with a great write up in the Niagara This Week Newspaper

A few weeks back I began sending out Press Releases to all the local London media contacts. After not so much as a peep from them it was suggested I also send press releases to the media back at home. I didn't expect much to come of it as the MTV Movie Awards Celebrity Gifting Suite and Swag Bags isn't until June 1st & 2nd. Low and behold - I had a call about my press release within half an hour of pressing send. I was so thrilled to get the call!

Amanda was awesome - she asked great questions, had a friendly personality and was interested to hear more about other projects in the works (such as the joint art exhibition that will begin touring at the end of the year and has stops in Grimsby already booked). In the end she put together a great little snapshot of what I was up to. I have been anxiously awaiting the final article and was rewarded for dragging my butt out of bed yesterday with a google alert waiting for me to say it was up online (appearing in print this week). I was excited to read it and share it.

Many thanks to Amanda & Niagara this week for taking the time to feature me! It means the world to me! Now I'm eagerly awaiting the hard copy print edition of the article to add to my scrapbook!

Haven't seen the article yet? Check it out here.

MTV Movie Awards Friday: My Entry in the Gift Guide

Okay so it's officially building up to the big event! I'm so excited about participating in this event and getting to chat with the celebs who attend online. It's a great way to get some real feedback!

This week I will be finishing folding the cards and organizing them into the packaging. So while I'm busy folding, packing, and tying up the celeb gifts check this out!

As a participant in the MTV Movie Awards Celebrity Gifting Suite Display & the Celebrity Gift Bags I also get to have a space in the Gift Guide being distributed. Check out my entry below!

Biggest challenge was deciding on the display and the bio. I redid my bio recently for my bio cards that will be included in the celeb gifts but for the gift guy it had to be a greatly shortened version. What do you think?
