Simple tip this week - when you focus on your subject fill the frame with it! If the location, the details in the background, or even the outfit the person is wearing is not important to the story don’t include it! It goes back to the KISS principle. Keep it simple stupid! You want the viewer’s eyes to be immediately lead to your subject and the key elements in the photo that tell the story without additional items that become visual clutter and distract from the subject. Take a look at the example below and which photo appeals to you more.
The first photo makes a great photo for more of commercial or lifestyle photo shoot but for a portrait of an individual the second photo definitely captures more of the person and allows some of the personality to shine through with a greater sense of warmth.
