New Colours & Website - Now New Blog Direction

As part of my experience at BlogHer I've realized something...I'm very unfocused. While in many areas of my life and business this portfolio of diverse interests has served me well (and continues to do so), this type of jumping around on the blog isn't fair to you, my loyal readers. It's not until now that I really started to look at it. At many of the sessions I attended people asked up to put up a hand for (or gave tips for) specific categories of blogs. It was through these moments, and meeting new people who immediately asked "What's your blog? What do you write about?", that made me realize maybe it was time for a change.

Everything I've written about has been true to me. It's been something I've written, believed, and has been related to my life as a photography, entrepreneur, artist, photographer, mother, and woman. I realize now, just because it's part of who I am doesn't mean this blog is where it belongs.

Let me take this moment to apologize for the craziness my blog has been - it's not fair to you, and thank you for sticking with my anyways! I promise to work to do better for you. Here are my goals going forward:

1. To be more consistent on my blog with regularly scheduled posts 2. New Topics that relate to what I've heard you say you want to see me write about - Got more ideas? Send them in! I'm always listening 3. Remember that this blog is my business blog, and as much as I love to share my life with you now all my readers, potential clients, current clients, past clients, and their friends and family want to read about my life 4. Create a personal blog - it may not be as consistent as this one but I do want to continue to share a little more of my life but this way, it's your choice whether you want to read that content or not

Please be patient as these changes are implemented and let me know  how I'm doing!

My Blogher12 Fashion & Style

This is by no mean the most important part of my blogher experience but it sure is fun! I had the opportunity to do a little shopping, receive a few items from sponsors, and do my best to put my best foot forward personally and professionally while in NYC. So I'm proud to present my blogher12 fashion & style in photos!

And what is a post about fashion & style without shoes, bags, and accessories? Enjoy this collage of the ones I rocked (in my own humble opinion) at BlogHer12 and while in New York City.

Thanks must go out to my awesome sponsors, family, and everyone else who helped me pull it all together!

Recap - Fabulous Friday at BlogHer12

Official Day One of the BlogHer12 conference kicked off with a delicious Newbie breakfast and Welcome. Both gave great information about the happenings at the conference and how to get the most out of it but I admit, I was anxious to just dive right in. My goal that day was to hit as many sessions as possible, attend the private parties I had been invited to, get to the second expo hall that I couldn't the night before, and make it to Sparklecorn. Did I succeed? Well not with all of it... I did however... - Attend a session about working with the media which gave me some great ideas on reaching out to my local media - Make it through the entire lower expo hall where I had a chance to meet lots of great sponsors - Attend all the private events I was invited to including the Microsoft Style Luncheon and Live Spreecast with Celebrity Stylist Jeannie Mai, the RoomKey party at the Rooftop Ava Lounge, The Naughty Monkey Party (shoes people, pretty pretty shoes), and the Harley Davidson event at Whiskey Park (Yes I was drooling!) - Walk through part of NYC on my own and not get lost - Make it to some of the Sponsor lounges up on the 42nd floor which resulted in Alyssa getting her first Hot Wheels Car and me hanging out talking chocolate with a Rep. in the Hersheys S'mores Lounge - Create my own dish at the Hillshire Farms booth (totally delish!) while chatting up some fellow Canadians

It was a fantastic day overall even if I didn't accomplish everything I had hoped to that day I was still running around like a chicken with my head cut off (or so it felt).

To slow down for a moment, I have to talk about one of my highlights of the day which was definitely the Windows Style Luncheon. We got to visit Microsoft's NYC office, have an awesome lunch, win great products and prizes (not me personally but oh well), and listen to Jeannie Mai as she dished out great style advice on the spreecast (missed it? You can still check it out at I was fortunate enough to even get to ask a style question of my own and get advice from Jeannie Mai live in person in front of everyone in the room and online. Talk about nerve racking! It was a fantastic experience and I was so excited that my walking buddy was actually one of the five lucky winners of the Windows Style Makeover Experience I blogged about a few weeks ago. Everybody was super sweet and Kristina Libby even helped me get some new shoes that wouldn't tear my feet off!

Check out some of the photos below to see just what a great time we had!

BlogHer12 Recap: Blographer & Evening at the Expo

This event is brand new! I had the pleasure of attending the first of what may become an annual event, Blographer hosted by Adorama. If you haven't heard about this event you're probably asking yourself...what is blographer? Well let me fill you in. Blographer is a day of learning about talking the photographs in your blog posts to the next level. While I know many of the bloggers found the day very informative, I found that I was clearly not the target audience (being a photographer first and blogger second) but I still had a blast. (For even more info head over to the Blographer Page)

I met a few others from BlogHer12 who were also attending Blographer to travel with, hang out with, and share my first NYC Subway trip with. Just before the day wrapped up we were able to get a quick photo snapped in front of the sponsor backdrop at the event.

After the day wrapped up it was time to prepare myself to head off to California Dreams and Evening at the Expo. California dreams was exciting though a little nerve wracking as it was my first private party but one of the hosts, the awesome Kitty Bradshaw, had personally invited me and been so super supportive that I knew it would be great! I also had the opportunity to hook up with Liz from Yes/No Films to attend. I had a great time and somehow even ended up in the photo album. Favourite moment for me...when someone asked if I had brought the cotton candy as a prop because it matched my purse so well.

I had no idea what to expect from the expo or the interactions with the brands but I was excited to check it out. First stop, the Pfizer pampering station. They had been kind enough to reach out and offer me the chance to stop by for a pampering service. I ended up being spoiled with a neck and shoulder massage, and a lip scrub and treatment by two lovely ladies while I was there. Now I was in the mood to mingle!

By the end of the night I had overflowing bags of information, samples and gifts. Better yet, I had the opportunity to meet in person some of the great sponsor representatives that I had been speaking to online for some time. My favourite was definitely the ladies from These ladies were so warm with everyone but when they recognized me I was greated as an old friend with cheers, hugs, and great enthusiasm. I admit - they made me feel amazing and gave me the confidence/energy boost I needed to make the most of the conference. I will definately be keeping in touch with these fabulous and stylish ladies, and if I'm really lucky maybe I'll have the opportunity to work with them as a brand ambassador! (crossing everything crossable)

One of the greatest things I got out of the day actually didn't come until that night as I returned from Evening at the Expo when I found speaker, blogger, photographer, and #mombizmonday twitter chat participant Amanda King Padgett sitting just outside the elevator. I overcame my usual response to just keep walking and went over to say hello and introduce myself. This introduction turned into more than an hour long conversation (when Amanda recognized me from our #MomBizMondays chats), and even an opportunity to meet #mombizondays host Lara Galloway (Mom Biz Coach)

BlogHer12: Taking (safe) risks in NYC

This month I had the great pleasure of heading off to BlogHer12 in NYC to spend 3 FABULOUS days (Aug 2-4) with over 5000 other (primarily) female bloggers meeting fantastic brands who understand the value of this group, learning together in great sessions and panels, and networking our hearts out at the many official and private parties. The whole experience was rather mindblowing and paradigm shifting experience. In anticipation of this amazing and over whelming experience in a city I've always wanted to visit, I arrived a day early and left two days late to be able to decompress a little and see the city. Unfortunately I did not plan as well as I might have liked. I arrived, checked into my hotel, hung my clothes, prepared to go sightseeing, and then I froze! Wait! I'm in a crazy big city, where I know absolutely no one, and I'm just going to randomly wander around?

Anyone who knows me well can tell you that that is not me. In many ways I am a play it safe girl (especially when it comes to personal safety and getting myself lost in a strange city). I am also not the type to randomly speak to complete strangers who I have no interaction with, but, I decided to reach out. I took the chance and hoped over to the #blogher12 twitter stream and found another attendee who was also hesitant to head out on her own but starving. We met up and went out to lunch together and it was fantastic! The next brave step, I wanted to tour the town...I decided to start by venturing across the road to the actual conference venue where I had the good fortune to cross paths with Liz from Yes/No Films and her friends in the lobby. Jenn, like me, had no plans for the evening and willingly obliged my desire to see the city hoping on the double decker night bus tour with me. Here are a few snaps from our tour!

What Blogher12 Meant to Me (in photos)

Just finally arrived home after a 24 hour flight delay in NYC and can't wait to fill you in on all the excitement from the last week at BlogHer12 but first...unpacking, grocery shopping, snuggles with my girl and sleep (lots and lots of sleep!) BlogHer12 Sponsor Love - My Sweet Stella's Journal

As I'm preparing for my Trip to #blogher12 in NYC, I'm starting my packing list. One important item on the new Hand painted Journal from Sweet Stellas!

I love this gorgeous colour combo! And the sculpted flowers are fantastic. Now I'm trying to decide my best use for it. Seminar notes? Notes about contacts (with cards included)? Blog and Idea book?

I can't seem to decide how to use it best - what would you use it for?

Windows BlogHer12 Total Style Makeover

Okay, wow...where to begin! Well let's start at the beginning shall we. Why am I writing this post? Well, back in June I began the process of rebranding, but I don't want to just rebrand my website, with events like the MTV Movie Awards Celebrity and the upcoming trip to NYC for BlogHer12 coming up, I also need to rebrand myself. What do I mean when I say rebrand myself? Well that's simple - do I want to change who I am? Absolutely not! But years ago, after the birth of my daughter, my style moved from that of a somewhat confident and quirky young woman (with ever changing hair colour) to a somewhat frumpy mom whose insides and out are completely mismatched.

I realized recently the importance my appears has. Not only am I the face and personification of my brand, but I am also the example to my 6 year old daughter. I want her to grow up being proud of how I present myself to the world, but also being proud of who she is, and presenting her own personality through style.

I began my company, Rebecca Nash Photography, and this blog to help others in any way I can but there were also selfish reasons for beginning the company.

From the time I found I was expecting my daughter, I was a single parent. And from the beginning there were challenges. I returned to home to the home of my parents while my daughter was born, returned to college after her birth to better our future, however, even after completing school I missed many moments with my daughter in order to earn the income needed to provide for her. When her health was declining for over a year and a supportive new spouse we were sharing our home with, I had the opportunity to begin my business full time from home to allow more time for daughter and flexibility to care for her.

Now with her health restored, and my business still in its infancy, I work to find the balance everyday between family and work as every mom does. One element of this is reinventing my brand and image to better match the kind of person I am as well as the services & customer experience a work so hard to provide every customer. Unfortunately, my wardrobe of poorly fitted, worn, and quite frankly boring clothing hinders me in my business, my promotion of the business, and my ability to set an example for my daughter.

I truly, and honestly believe that with an updated unique style I could take my business & personal life to new levels of success not only through the difference in how I look but the difference in how I feel.

After watching many shows (big fan of what not to wear, Makeover Makeunder, and how to look good naked) and watching friends experience transformations in their appearance and style I believe I can safely say the biggest benefit comes from the way people feel about themselves, project that confidence, and the way others begin to perceive them in all of their daily interactions.

I am eager to begin the process of becoming the best possible version of myself both inside and out. First step for me was inspiration...I have been online shopping, trying on clothes, and reading articles on style, body types, and the like to get me prepared for this exciting but overwhelming task.

Next step in the process - building the budget and raising the funds! More photos of the few new pieces I've acquired coming in another post soon!
