Friday Favourites

Hey hey! I'm so glad you came to join me for the first ever Friday Favourites post here on Rebecca Nash Photography.

This week I'm excited to share a few favourites that I came across this week or that really hit me this week as something you might love too.

Blacksburg Belle

Okay, I'm just putting this out there. I read a LOT of blogs and email newsletters each week but there is just something about April and her blog Blacksburg Belle that I just adore.

I love the style and colours, her totally down to earth voice, and that she showcases not only her knowledge (if you are in a creative business, there is so much you can learn from here) but also her style and quirky sensibilities.

It didn't take long for me to feel like April was someone amazing to learn from but also to feel like she was a friend. I mean, we have so much in common (like the fact that we both love Gilmore Girls and I just can't wait for the new mini series on Netflix - ekk!)

Check out Blacksburg Belle!

West Elm

So clearly I am super late to the game here.

No I didn't just learn about West Elm, I've heard about it so many times but it wasn't until I completely fell in love with a table from them that Jillian Harris used in a recent episode of Love it or List It Vancover that I finally hoped over to their site and fell in love with a whole lot of stuff.

I wanted to go through and redecorate so much of our home (and finish finding the perfect pieces for the office too) already but between Bouclair's new Atelier line, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, and Ikea I'm just itching to redo everything!

This Terrance Console Table is one of my favourite pieces right now (and the one I fell in love with on Love It or List It Vancover)

Renovation & Decor Shows

Who else is addicted?

I feel like it's a right of passage to a certain degree. I remember watching my mom watch these kinds of shows on HGTV even just a few years back and not really given them a second chance. Now a few years and milestones later (like turning 30, getting married and living in a home we own for more than 5 yrs) I'm a addicted to some of these shows and the contractors and stylists behind them. This is a good thing, and a bad.

On the positive side - I have new inspiration and ideas. I have a better sense of both the costs of certain types of renos that I have dreamed of doing as well as what actually adds value.

On the negatives - I totally want to redo the majority of our home and have all these crazy big (and unrealistic for us right now) ideas on how to make our home work better. There has been a whole lot of eye rolling from my husband for sure.

My current favourite shows include...

Love It or List It Vancouver

Property Brothers (and of their shows)

Master of Flip

What are your Friday Favourites? What have you been crushing on this week?

Hop down to the comments below and share your favourites too. Can't wait to see what you are loving this week!

It's a new year and I'm thrilled to introduce a new service to all the fantastic brides out there.

Is it really that new? No

Is it something you should consider to compliment your wedding photography? Yes!

Styled Wedding- Michelle & Teresa20130528DSC_7615154

Picture this. You've found your groom, the man you want to spend the rest of your life with.

You've found your dress, the one that makes you feel like a bride, that you can't wait to wear down the aisle and say I do.

You've found your photographer and can't wait to hang beautiful wedding artwork on the walls of your home.

You've found this great location that would be a dream come true to have your photographs taken there. Then reality hits...the ceremony is at 3, the reception starts at 5, you have all those family photos to do, and the perfect location for your bridal creative portraits is an hour away.

Should that mean your dreams of being photographed at that beautiful location should go out the window? No way!

Enter the bridal portrait session.

A bridal portrait session allows you to choose another day (before or after your wedding) when timelines aren't rushed, the family isn't all around you, and any of the craziness of the wedding day is far from your mind to get ready and visit those dream locations to get those stunning additional creative portraits in all of your wedding day best.

Sneak Peek: A Glowing fall Maternity Portrait Session with Samantha

Sam and I met in college. She was this fun, spunky young woman and I was the mature student with an infant at home (though somewhere under there I like to think I was still a fun spunky woman too). Years, life changes, and distance has kept us apart more in recent years but when Sam called me to find out what weekends I would be available to help her celebrate her pregnancy I knew this was going to be a weekend to remember.

On a crisp Sunday morning, off we went to celebrate in the beautiful fall colours all around Ottawa. Sam glowed among the natural elements she loves in the warmth of fall colours.

It was amazing to see just how at peace Sam was even in the very crisp fall air

Look at those blue eyes! I wonder if Lilly will have them too.

This woman just glows with the joys of becoming a mother!

It was such an honour to spend a quiet morning with Sam celebrating her pregnancy and the little girl that will soon turn her world upside down and challenge the boundaries of the amount of love a heart can hold.

I wish you all the best Sam and can't wait to meet Lilly!

Wedding Wednesday: Photography Inspiration

Today I wanted to share some of my favourite ideas for shots I want to take, and I think you should consider some of these for your big day too! **Disclaimer: These Photos are NOT my own work. They are inspiration I have found online and on pinterest that I wanted to share - Please see my pinterest boards at http://pinterest.com/rnashphoto/ for the pins linking to the image sources**

I love this image set as a great gift for special family members as a collage or a special spread in the parents album.

Sweet and simple but isn't this what the  wedding is all about? Choosing to spend the rest of your life together, declaring your love, and making promises to each other to create a life together. (Yes I'm a total romantic)

Every bride loves her shoes (or some accessory of their wedding day attire) and this is an amazing way to showcase the romance and the details of the wedding day.

Hope this leaves you feeling inspired - it's definitely inspired me!

Style Me Monday: Add a Little Sparkle

With the holiday season looming, the shine and sparkle is coming back! It's the tinsel on the tree, the garland on the banister, the glittering snow, the twinkling lights, and your favorite holiday accessories. That's right, break out the sparkle in our style.
Now I'm a firm believer in everything in moderation that means...
1) Don't dress head to toe in sparkles unless you are on stage or the red carpet
2) Keep the sparkle to your accessories if you're not sure
3) Light shimmer on your makeup might be okay but go light!
Here are some great ways to add a little sparkle to your holiday style this year...
What's your favourite way to wear sparkle this season? Leave me a message!

Wedding Wednesday: What to do with your dress after the wedding...

Every bride knows that their wedding dress is a big decision that affects many other decisions along the journey of planning your wedding day, but have you decided what to do with the dress when your day is over?

These days there are a few different options

  1. Let it hang in the closet
  2. Get it cleaned and packed up to preserve it
  3. Donate it to charity
  4. Sell it
  5. Or display it in a loving way like this bride did

I love the way this bride preserved her dress. It was an important part of her day, her memories, and her style so she had her gown custom framed and lit in her walk in closet.

Why don't we do this more? Why wouldn't we want to remember the happiest day of our lives? If it were me, I would love this - Everyday I'd walk into my closet to get dressed and that dress would give me a boost thinking about how amazing the day was, how beautiful I felt, how beautiful I was...That's the mind frame I want to be in (happy and confident) when I'm getting dressed at the beginning of my day.

Would you do this with your dress? Tell me about what you did (or plan to do) with your dress after the big day and why!

Style Me Monday: Holiday Colours

The holidays are almost upon us and the store windows are coming up Christmas. This year, don't get caught in that reindeer sweater straight out of Bridget Jones Diary, instead do holiday colours in amazing dresses that can be used all year round.
Whether you prefer poinsetta red, mistletoe green, or snow white...there are so many fabulous options available!

What's your favourite dress for the holiday season? Leave a comment below telling me all about your outfit and the occasion.

Wedding Wednesday: Hair Style of the Month

OMG I'm in love! I saw this hairstyle and just knew I needed to post it right away.
The hair is swept up off the face opening the face, showcasing any jewellery you may be wear, or details on the top of the wedding gown. The way the hair is swept up in multiple sections and pinned with some volume creates shape and texture and keeps the updo from looking to severe.
The curls are beautifully done, pinned in place tapering down to the long piece extending down your back (or in the case of the image over your shoulder).
Here I've paired the hair style with a hairband with a darker detail so it accents but doesn't distract from the beautiful style. Depending on your style, a small tiara, a jeweled headband, or some embellished hair pins would also be great additions.
I love the beauty, romance, and texture of this look. It can be paired with any style from a full ball gown to a slim fit and flare silhouette and still look amazing.
What would you use to accessorize this style?

Style Me Monday: One Little Black Dress - Two Outfits

Last week I had a tough new challenge...finding something to wear for my appearance on Daytime London. I started out by hitting the mall...I found tons of great items but many of them would be one use items.
Then I stepped into Jacob and quickly had a full room of dresses, tops, and skirts to try on. When I got to this black sheath dress I just loved it. It fits beautifully, is classic and appropriate. In short, I loved it!
Before I decided on anything, I needed to plan it out - what would be the most practical? If I bought this dress what options would I have for upcoming events like the Gallery Opening? Here are two of my favourite options...
I'm notoriously bad for pairing black with black, black, and more black so when I started to play I looked at options that were calm classics (but not black) and something that added a punch of colour while coming off polished and professional but still young and fun.
How do you accessorize a great little black dress? Leave your comments below!

Wrapping it Up at the Nth Lounge & Emporium

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the first annual holiday event for the Nth Lounge & Emporium at the beautiful Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. It was a fantastic day out with great food, wine, and vendors set at a beautiful and unique venue.

Having never been to the Gladstone Hotel before I had no idea what to expect. Once inside I just loved it! Unique artistic touches intermingle with historic elements in a beautiful way that compliments, not competes, with each other. I admit, walking up the stairs I was completely fascinated with the old elevator (oldest still operating in Toronto - over 100 years old) but when I reached the second floor for the Nth Lounge & Emporium I was ready for some fun. Immediately upon entering my eyes fell upon the table for Colaneri Winery and the gorgeous mini cupcakes from Trina's Cakes.

I loved the signs giving the perfect wine pairings for each of the cupcakes. Such little details (and scrumptious cupcakes) were the order of the day.

The day was full of amazing vendors with some of my personal favourites including

- Giddy YoYo - Amazing Chocolate...I need to find somewhere to get this locally. Even their extra dark has a beautiful smooth flavor.

- B.A.G.S. (Beautiful Accessories Great Style) - I was totally eyeing this beautiful blue number while we were there

- Eliza Perry Purveyor of Fine Handmade Accessories - I fell in love with one necklace in particular. It's just my style!

- Eves Leaves - I loved the look and feel of the fabric, and the versatility of these items was just astounding - Also love tat for people like me there is a youtube video of how to dress yourself :D

- Karoo - Beautiful clothes - I fell in love with a great tunic but sadly my wool allergy kept me from it :(

- Olivia Rose - Beautiful tutus and petti-skirts for little ones

- 2nd Shot - Creating amazing things from old skateboards

- Totem - Truly One of a Kind Upcycled Bags - I loved all the colours!

Also happening on site....Mini Manicures, On Site Mobile Spa Services, Live Painting by artist Mark Grice, and much more!

Definitely an event worth attending! Keep up on everything happening for the Nth Lounge & Emporium's next event by visiting the website at www.NthLounge.com, like them on facebook Nth Lounge & Emporium, and follow them on Twitter @NthLoungeEmpori

Wedding Wednesday: Black vs. White Wedding

Alright, most people picture the big white wedding when we start talking about wedding day details. Three of the most common areas we see white on the wedding day are in the Bridal gown, the bouquet, and the wedding cake.
Today I've tackled these three items with option to add some rock and roll with a white versus black option for each.
First up, the bridal gown!

Would you include black in your wedding day? How would you do it?
