Opps I did it Again - The 2018 Ride to Conquer Cancer

Hi guys,

So I did something, something a lot of people thought was crazy to do once but then I went and did it again. I signed up for the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Last time I did this, in 2014, I signed up for a family member and a student fighting cancer and all those we have lost before. I started fundraising and training for this 200+ KM bike right from Toronto to Niagara Falls. I was excited and nervous (and insanely grateful for all the love, encouragement, and donations in support of my ride).

Sadly Auntie never saw me ride past the end of her driveway when she lost her battle just 2 weeks before the ride (but my husband and parents were there cheering us on). My student however, is a success story. After 3 years he's out of the hospital, done his treatments and doing really really well.

This year I am riding in memory of my Aunt, in celebration of my students success, and I also want to ride in support a friend and photography mentor, Jennifer Rozenbaum, in her fight against Breast Cancer. Jen recently underwent a bi-lateral mastectomy but has been incredible open in sharing her entire journey in the hopes of raising awareness and helping others. She's an inspiration!

I want to be a part of making more stories like my students come true through the research, treatment, and care that the Ride to Conquer Cancer funds.

I have set my goals for training and fundraising. Every day I'll be getting closer to reaching my fundraising goal of $2500 and my personal goal of finishing strong (without developing pneumonia this time hopefully). You can help me reach that goal by making a donation on my behalf today. It only takes a second and your gift has the power to change lives for the better.

Join Me in my journey to the Ride to Conquer Cancer!

A few weeks ago I spoke in a personal post about my goals to be the best possible version of myself for my daughter, my family, my clients, and myself. Today, I'm thrilled to share with you the next step on my journey.

About two weeks ago I was out picking up a coffee (ok a hot chocolate with whipped cream - yum!) when I saw a flyer for the 2014 Embridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. After taking a look over it I went wow...a 200+Km bike ride? That's really cool but I could never do it.

As disappointing as that initial reaction was, it didn't last long. By the time I reached work a new conversation was going on in my head....

Maybe I could do it...

...would my bike make it through?

Would I make it through?

How would I train for this event?

Do I have enough time?

Somewhere in this conversation I came to the simple conclusion...

I have months to train

I'm strong, healthy, and rather stubborn

I will find a way to get a new bike

And I am going to do this!

To me this event is about so many different things. It's about being the best possible me. It's about setting an example for my daughter. It's about challenging myself to do something that I never would have believe I could or would do if you had asked me even a few months ago.

It's also about supporting an amazing Ontario based charity event that sets goals high for it's participants to make their goal of conquering cancer in our lifetime a reality! I've set my goals high...

1)I will complete this event and possibly the added afterburner challenge of an additional 50Km in Hamilton once we reach camp.

2)I will raise $4,500 or more for this awesome event

3)I will involve my family, my students, and my community in the journey whenever I can

From now until the ride (June 7th & 8th) I'm excited to begin training, sharing frequent updates on my personal ride page (http://www.conquercancer.ca/goto/RebeccaNash), and monthly updates here on the whole journey. Join me, your thoughts, advice, and encouragement always pushes me onward!
