Behind the Lens - My Assistant & Motivation

This week in behind the lens I really wanted to introduce you to a little more of why I do what I do and my dreams for the future. In order to do this, I need to introduce you a little further to my (usually) eager behind the scenes assistant and the motivation she gives me...none other than my beautiful 7 year old daughter Alyssa.

If you're like most people you are thinking...what the heck does a daughter have to do with photographing amazing women and their wedding day?

Let's rewind to about a year ago. If you came in during that time you would find a bubbly, beautiful, string bean of a 6 year old running around my home. The problem was that when she looked in the mirror or into herself, that's not what she saw.

At 6 years old she had decided something. She had decided that she was ugly, she was fat, and that she hated herself. This wasn't just a moment and it broke my heart. How could such a vibrant healthy young girl think such things about herself?  I looked in the mirror and realized that the media, her friends at school, and the society we live in weren't completely to blame. I had never shown her how to be naturally beautiful, how to be confident, and how to love yourself. We both made changes. A year later we are still working hard to help her recognize her own beauty, her own value, and her abilities.

This was on my mind constantly when I was teaching, when I was meeting with clients, and when I was photographing. I knew Alyssa wasn't the only person in the world to feel this way but it amazed me to see how many women of all ages are afflicted with this same lack of confidence, poor body image, and low sense of self worth. During this time I was also introduced to the fabulous Sue Bryce through an online training resource called CreativeLive.

Sue has inspired me to recognize and capture the beauty in every woman in stunning artwork that will everyday remind them of their own beauty and value. I want to inspire others to love themselves, to be confident, and to value themselves and all they have to offer.

I dream of a gallery and studio where every size, shape, and colour of beauty is celebrated in art. Where woman can come in to be pampered, to have fun, and to step in front of my lens as we create artwork that will be cherished for generations as they let their true beauty shine!

Contemporary Elegance Portraits with Shanel

This past weekend I had the fabulous experience of getting the beautiful and energizing Shanel of From the Heart and Soul in front of my lens for a day of beauty, elegance, glamour, and a few good laughs along the way. From the moment she walked in through hair, makeup, and clothing changes this woman just radiates confidence, poise, and the very definition of contemporary elegance through the portrait artwork creation session. I'm thrilled to share with you today just a few of the many sides to Shanel in art with her portraits!

Sneak Peek: Contemporary Elegance Portraits - Gloria

If you're a regular on this blog you've seen her before.

The beautiful Gloria is back in front of the camera testing out the Contemporary Elegance Portrait experience!

Now I must admit, when Gloria came I even said to her something about how great her hair and makeup were. Then she filled me in that she hadn't done hair or makeup yet as I had suggested. First thought....Seriously? She's this gorgeous without hair or makeup?

Second, this is way too much fun!  Just take a look...

Style Me Monday: Long and Lean in Black

You've probably heard that every woman should have an LBD or Little Black Dress in their wardrobe but right now...I'm more in love with the Long Black Dress like these beautiful dresses...
I found these beauties while browsing one of my favorite designer lines, Alexander Mcqueen, for inspiration. I absolutely love the long monochromatic look of these and both give me a feel of modern beauty with a touch of old hollywood glamour.
While now there are very few occasions where a long dress is required, I think something like these beautiful long black dresses are a must for any wardrobe. A long, slim lined dress like this must fit you perfectly! You want this dress to glide beautifully down your body, accentuating all the right curves while not constricting your movement (or breathing).
Would you try a Long Black Dress this holiday season?
