A New Chapter for London Realtor Kelley McIntyre

A New Chapter for London Realtor Kelley McIntyre

Earlier this season, I got to spend the day with the fabulous Kelley McIntyre getting her all glammed up and visiting a few of her homes and clients throughout London. The goal of our session - to showcase a little more of who she is and what she does because this girl is so much more than just another pretty face.

Why printed photos excite me in a way that digitals never do

This post has been on my mind for quite a while but I kept putting it off for one reason, I am hugely passionate about this topic and just didn't know where to even start.

As a photographer, you don't have to convince me the importance of an image. It's a moment captured in time. It's a person captured just as they all for all time. It's a memory that you can see, that you can share. If you have ever had a photo taken or taken photos of any sort yourself, you already know there is magic there.

Ornate vintage white picture frame with portrait

Where things seem to get muddy is what to do with them after they are taken.

Today i'm here to beg you, please please PLEASE don't let your memories grow up to be jpegs.

The point of a beautiful photograph (whether a portrait, a beautiful landscape, or photographs of the moment you said I do) is to enjoy it. To let them transport you to another place an time. It's a reminder of something (or someone) pretty awesome in your life. You need to be able to touch it, to hold it, and to cherish it every time you see it hanging on the wall or open the pages of an album to it.

There's nothing like holding in your hand a moment that has forever changed you. Tangible proof right there of beauty, strength, and love. Printed images are just more real, more relevant, and more valued.

On another note...

Modern technology has made it easier than ever to grab a quick snapshot of a special moment. We take a million photos today on our phones and cameras to remember a moment or share with someone who isn't there to see it. It's amazing!

The question is...What about when you upgrade your phone? What about when your laptop dies? What happens when your hard drive doesn't work? What happens when you no longer have a way to read that disc of images?

So many people are losing years, decades even, of important memories in the blink of an eye. We can't let that happen anymore. Why?

If we don't start printing our images, We risk becoming a missing or forgotten generation.

If we don't start printing our photos (and labeling them) we will become the generation that is missing from the history books not just in classrooms, but in our families too. Our children will look back on who we were, and won't have anything to look back and remember us. Our Grandchildren may never believe we were ever young. They won't know who were were, what we did, who we loved.

So please, print your most precious images. Frame them. Put them in an album. Create a special place for them. Make them a part of your life today, and a part of your legacy for tomorrow.

My Favourite Image....a challenge from the #VantagePoint Project and Light.Co

When Tim originally reached out to me I was super excited. Not only had someone at the innovative company Light.Co noticed my work, they wanted me to be part of a project they were working on. (If you haven't heard of Light.Co yet you should check out their new 16 lens small camera - it's got amazing potential and I am definitely hoping to test one out soon.) As part of their #VantagePoint project, Light.Co was reaching out to photographers, asking us to share our favourite image that we have taken and a bit of the why and how of that image. Right away I was on board but I will admit, this post has taken a lot longer to come together than either of us expected. Why? Because after almost 8 years of photographing professionally, and working with some really amazing people, choosing a favourite image is hard!

So today I introduce you to a few of my favourite images from the last 8 amazing years of photography. These images come from one of my on location styled sessions to create unique stylized portraits and the experience of the whole day with Karla was a huge inspiration for the new line of Contemporary Portraits we introduced in the winter.

We were up at the crack of dawn (ok, a bit before that) - Karla prepped in hair and makeup while I loaded up and made my way (with my hubby) to the beach in Port Stanley before the firsts rays of light began to show over the horizon.

Especially for this session, we had rented a beautiful parachute dress. This dress, formerly a 35 foot military parachute, had strength and femininity. It had structure but still had flow. It was a practical item made beautiful. It represented so much of the strength, softness, and beauty that exists in every woman.

We encountered many struggles along the way including...

  • it was 4:30am, where was Karla going to change?
  • There was a storm rolling in, were we going to be able to shoot at all?
  • Karla would be back lit as the sun rose behind her, how would we make sure she did not become a silhouette?
  • The dress was massive, how were we going to get it to do what we wanted it to?
  • The wind was blowing, hard, how do we keep her from being blown away (it was still mostly a parachute after all)?

Equipped with my camera, lenses, reflectors, flashes, and my husband as my assistant we made it happen. We walked the beach, threw the dress for shape and volume, grabbed the dress to help Karla not get blown away, climbed lifeguard towers for a different angles, and outran a torrential downpour to take cover under a local overhang.

In the end though, we had fun, created beautiful portraits (and even better memories), and gave someone an experience that made them feel strong and beautiful. That right there, is what it's all about.

Sneak Peek - Karla's Portraits

This is Karla

Karla is a Mother

Karla is a Student

Karla is an Employee

Karla is Partner

Karla is a Dreamer

Karla is a Hustler

but more than anything else...

Karla is an amazingly strong and beautiful woman inside and out.

Over the last few years I have had the pleasure of getting to know and photograph this beautiful woman. She has shared her hopes and dreams as well as her struggles with me. I was honoured to have her sit in front of my camera, in full celebration of exactly who she is, to capture these portraits.

I just loved watching Karla spin and twirl as she smiled and laughed in this ball gown, skirt swishing around here. She looked stunning of course but it was the joy that flowed out of her in that moment that made that moment everything it was.

Join Us - Celebration of Beauty

Join us in the studio on Friday February 17th 2017 from

This past week I have had the pleasure of being interviewed on Daytime London on Rogers TV and been able to share a bit of who I am on The Gem too.

It's been amazing and the response to the new Contemporary Elegance Portraits has really touched my heart. Sharing my own story and something so close to my heart is always a little nerve wracking.

Thank you for being such an open loving community. I'm forever grateful and I hope to get to express it to each of you this Friday night.

Springbank Park Engagement Session - Lujain and Vince

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (3)

When I first met these two, they seemed so quiet and shy.

It didn't take long to find out that even with an 'electrifying' personality like his - Vince was often the strong silent type but when he looked at Lujain it was a different story. He may not have said much, but you can be sure there was love there. Why else would he have agreed to engagement portrait (when he doesn't love photos) and even braving potential spiders (something they both hate) to put a smile on her face?

Now don't go thinking it's all one sided here...Lujain's love for Vince is just as evident. From the way she loves seeing even the tiniest of smiles cross his face to the way she loves leaving lipstick on his cheek. These two have found their other half.

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (4)

I couldn't help falling in love with this couples love for each other, their nervous laughter, and their willingness to try anything (as long as I did a quick spider check first).

I can't wait to share their wedding day too!

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (2)

Now it's time to turn it over to Lujain & Vince and hear about their love story in their own words...

We have been dating since September 12, 2011

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (5)

We met at a friend's bonfire. Vince spent most of the night changing the music on the radio, which helped spark the first conversation. Lujain was jokingly insulting Vince's "DJ skills". From there we became quick friends and aneven better couple.

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (6)

Vince: When we went on our first camping trip to the pinary on the dunes. As usual we were running late and began setting up the tent after dark. I couldnt help but to notice how well we work together and no matter how frustrating the task may be, we work through it and make an enjoyable memory of it. I found myself wishing for a lifetime of weekends like that one.
Lujain: I don't know if there was a single moment that I can say I knew Vince was the one. Vince is just someone who part takes in all my adventures and schemes. When we went for a walk in Springbank park when we were first getting to know each other. He helped me walk the dogs and we spent the whole time laughing and talking. We ended the night on the swings and lost track of time. It was the first time I felt like someone actually was listenng to me. Other moments would be when we make people around us just crack up. He annoys me and makes me laugh all at the same time. I love him.

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (7)

Vince : My favourite thing about lujain is her drive to help others even when it is no easy task. she always makes you feel like a priority.
Lujain: My favorite thing about Vince is his passion. He will never do a task half assed, from cutting the grass , to fixing the roof, to taking care of me when I'm hurt. Vince is always dedicated and takes pride in everything he does.

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (8)

We love to fish, hunt, skydive, ride the motorcycles, play with our dogs, climb things we probably shouldn't and binge watch tv with pizza in our laps.

VinceAndLujainSpringbankEngagementSession-RebeccaNashPhotography (10)

Vince hates getting his picture taken, so the fact that he is willing to do this because it makes me happy, shows you what a great guy he is. Plus it's kind of fun pushing him out of his comfort zone and sharing how handsome he is :)

Jess & Kevin's Beach Engagement

PortFranksEngagementSessionJessAndKevin20160618DSC_1324303

Last week I had the pleasure of spending my Saturday Night with two AMAZING people.

Are you likely to see them on the news or watch people clamor to take a selfie with them? Maybe not, but to me they are heros. Why?

To see the woman Jessica is, how she has pushed through every obstacle and health struggle that has been placed in her path but only came out stronger, kinder and more loving. To see the way Kevin looks at Jessica with love...a lovethat has seen her struggle and stood by her side from a man that stands by her side ready to carry her when she's not sure she can take another step, to put her feet back on her path, who is ready not to walk ahead or trail behind but always be the man standing beside her facing life's struggles and celebrating life's beauty together every step of the way.

Before I get too carried away and I lose sight of my screen for the tears of love and joy for these two (yep- I am that sappy/emotional) I want to hand it over to Jessica & Kevin to tell you a little bit more about who they are.

In their words...

How long have you known each other? 2 years

How did you meet?

We met online! It's embarrassing, but becoming the norm for meeting people. Our first meeting was magical! When did you know your fiance was 'the one'? (both answer please) We both knew on our first meeting that there was something very special between us. We had a magical first date which included a beautiful drive, a walk on the beach, dinner and fireworks on the beach. After that first date, we were inseparable. Soulmates. We would ready to get married that first week together.

What is your favourite thing about your fiance? My favourite thing about Kevin is his kind and gentle spirit; he is very sweet and caring. - Jess

My favourite thing about Jessica is her empathetic ways. - Kevin

What do you love to do together? We love to sit at home together and watch movies or binge on a good TV series. We also love our family time. When we have both our children (Aiden and Jillian) at the house, we enjoy spending time at the park. We are very low key!

Is there anything else you'd like to share? We both feel complete and have feelings of wholeness as a family since finding each other. We are truly blessed. Not everyone finds their soulmate, their other half! The one who understands them on that other level!

Janice & Shyle's Engagement Portraits

Janice and Shyle are a fun loving couple who wanted to incorporate their love of city life and personal style into some beautiful engagement portraits.
The one thing I couldn't get over...the way they laugh and smile together, the way they look at each other, and their love for each other!

Now I'm turning it over to Janice & Shyle to tell us a little more about their love story!

Since 2008
Janice & Shyle Engagement - London Rebecca Nash Photography (1 of 53) (4)

Janice - Through an old girlfriend in college. She was dating him and introduced him to our group of friends. We didn't meet again until 2013 when I messaged him through blackberry messenger and asked him if he had any single friends. Turns out he was the "friend" and we met up later that week. The rest is history.
Shyle - I dated one of her friends way back in 2008-2009, so she met me that way.
Janice & Shyle Engagement - London Rebecca Nash Photography (1 of 53) (9)

Janice - I knew he was the one the day he came to my condo in Toronto. This was November 2013. I hadn't seen him in years and the moment he came through the door, I knew there was something special about him. I was right and we have been together ever since.
Shyle - Shortly after the first time I saw her again in a few years. We started talking again, after being merely acquaintances, then we ended up seeing each other to hang out, then perhaps after like 3 more occasions of hanging out I realized that she was the one for me. And we've been inseparable ever since.
Janice & Shyle Engagement - London Rebecca Nash Photography (1 of 53) (16)

Janice - His kindness. He is the kindest person I know and that says a lot. He is always there and always willing to help me out. Always puts me first and treats me like a princess.
Shyle - She keeps me honest, encourages me everyday, and makes me want to be a better person.

Janice - spending time with our daughter as a family.
Shyle - Movies, relaxing, going out together (bars, hanging out with friends, bowling)

Janice & Shyle Engagement - London Rebecca Nash Photography (1 of 53) (40)

Shyle - We go to Moxies every year to celebrate our anniversary, and we wear the exact same outfit every year. It was the place we went to for dinner the first time we went out for dinner. Essentially our first date!

Jenna & Tom's Fanshawe Engagement Portraits

You know when you meet someone and you just hit it off. This couple was like that. You could feel right from the get go that Jenna & Tom were going to be like that.

This couple is fun loving, enthusiastic about everything they do and have a fabulous sense of humour. I couldn't have been happier to share a beautiful morning with them at Fanshawe Conservation Area here in London capturing their engagement portraits.

It took 3 tries (thanks torrential downpours) to make this this fun loving couples outdoor portrait session happen, but third time certainly is the charm!

A little more about Jenna & Tom in their own words...

We've known each other since Elementary School

How did you meet?

Tom and I grew up a literally a block apart from each other, after Tom moved into the area when he was in grade 6.

Jenna&Tom-Engagement20150703DSC_2265265

Jenna- I think it took us both awhile to decide on FOREVER, our friends and family seemed to notice it before us. After moving to the other side of the world and realizing how we always had our great adventures together, I knew I had to come home and be with him to continue our great adventures.
Tom- When she decided to come home from Australia to be with me.

Jenna&Tom-Engagement20150703DSC_2374265

Tom - 'No day is ever boring'
Jenna- ' The things we do together, and of course being amazingly handy is always a bonus'

Exisit in Photographs...a campaigain inspired by Sue Bryce

Sue Bryce has a vision...to help women to love and value themselves, to recognize their own beauty, and to have amazing photographs to celebrate all of this. Along with many photographers across the world Sue urges everyone (but especially women) to exist in photographs. Exist in photographs for yourself. Exist in photographs for your children.

When did you last have your photograph taken?

For us it had been about 3 years, maybe 4 actually, since our last family photo. Sure there were a few smart phone shots, and plenty of photos of the munchkin, but, when it came to a beautiful family photo I could hang on the wall, that we could look back on for years and remember that moment, and that I could pass on....well, they looked dated.

Coming this weekend...how did we make sure we exist in photographs?
