London Wedding Pros - Introducing Amy McNall from Unmistakeably You!

Amy McNall, Lead Wedding Coordinator at Unmistakably You Specializing in Wedding & Portrait Photography

Tell me about your business

Unmistakably You is a unique wedding planning company specializing in helping couples plan a wedding that is personal and memorable. We don't do "cookie cutter" - it's your wedding, your way!

Your Bio

I'm a highly motivated and organized (and a little crazy) woman who is passionate about all things wedding. I also love red wine, sushi, and dessert, cuddling up with my awesome hubby, music, and The Walking Dead. :o)

What inspired you to start your business?

I'd always thought I might like to plan weddings, and was always the party planner among my friends, and on student's council in university. When I got married, I realized that I loved the whole process, and shortly after my honeymoon, the business was born!

Arch 2

What do you do for couples?

Everything. :o) From stepping in six weeks before to help them pull things together and coordinate the day-of, to full service, no-holds-barred wedding planning, I do it all. I'm in the business of reducing couples' stress, so I customize my services to suit each individual couple (after all, their wedding isn't the same as everyone else's, so why should they get the same services?). I do everything from helping pull together a couple's vision to managing their budget to sourcing vendors to advising them through tough decisions. I'm there from start to finish at the rehearsal and on the day of, making sure that problems are prevented, and if unexpected issues arise, I take care of them before the couple even knows anything went wrong. I like to say booking me is an investment in a couple's sanity. :o)

Tell me about your favourite part of the job

Seeing a couple share a moment of complete happiness and contentment on their wedding day - whether during the ceremony or at the reception, and knowing I helped play a part in giving them the day they dreamed of.

In your clients words…

"I honestly don’t know what we would’ve done if we didn’t have Amy McNall from Unmistakably You helping us plan our wedding day. Amy was with us from the beginning and truly made our wedding unique and personal to reflect who we are. (“Unmistakably Us”… if you will…). We live in Toronto but got married in London, so there were A LOT of emails and Skype dates over the past year. She was always quick to respond, flexible to accommodate our busy schedules, and kept things fun which made what is normally a very stressful process unbelievably stress-free. Whenever an issue came up, she didn’t just identify it but she had already thought of a couple solutions. Amy kept us organized, gave us some amazing ideas, and really made our vision a reality. My mom repeatedly said “…that girl is worth her weight in GOLD!” – and it’s true! She is so passionate about her work and that really came through in everything she did for us. I would definitely recommend her to ANYone planning a wedding. She is truly one of a kind and I can’t thank her enough for everything she did for us. Our wedding was hands down the best day of our lives and we owe a lot of that to Amy so THANK YOU!" ~Ashley and Braedon, June 22, 2013, Great Hall, UWO

Biggest piece of advice you give couples about their weddings:

Umm . . . hire a wedding planner! Planning a wedding is hard work, time consuming, and overwhelming. A qualified planner can save a ton of time through doing the legwork for you. She can identify vendors that work with your budget, aesthetic, and personality, and help you pull together a cohesive, personal and fun day. She's done this many times before, and she knows what works and what doesn't when creating an itinerary. She can point out and prevent issues throughout the process and on the day of the wedding, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the biggest party you'll ever throw!

Where can people find you?

Showroom by appointment: 182 Belgrave Avenue, London, N6C 4B9 5519-852-7479 amy@unmistakablyyou.com www.facebook.com/unmistakableweddings www.unmistakablyyou.com

Anything else you would like people to know?

Even if you're doing the planning yourself, consider either a consultation to get you started on the right foot, or book my day-of services to ensure that all your plans go smoothly, and that your friends and family don't have to work on the day of your wedding!

Finding my Creative Groove in the new Office space

These last few weeks have been fun with the adventure of setting up a new office in my home. There was nothing wrong with the old office, but this space is just better for me. It also made me take a moment to really look at what I had in my office.

When I moved in 4 years ago, everything was just dumped into the office and shoved in anywhere I could find space. Now with a new space, new storage, and more stuff it was time for a big clean up, sort, & organize.

I'm nowhere near done but making steady progress. I'm excited to keep organizing but also to decorate the space to be both efficient and inspiring! I want to come into the space and feel energized about working, connecting, creating, and learning every single day!

I started with an empty space with one key feature I didn't have downstairs...a big, beautiful window that allows me to watch my daughter play in the backyard, watch birds darting in and out of our bird houses, and see the flowers groing in the garden. It let's me feel connected outside my 4 walls. It also lets in light. Beautiful natural light just pours in and helps me stay positive all day long!

20140427_065109

The first thing I did, of course, was set up my desk & computer right next to that beautiful window. For a few days, that's all there was. The rest of my office sat in tubs, boxes and piles all over the family room floor.

20140427_065057

Then, I came home one day and found this on the office floor...

20140507_061926

My Fiance had heard me saying I needed to pick some of these up to get my stuff organized in the office. I was stoked because I knew I could get started.

Then, the next night I walked in and found this...20140509_054049

While I was out, someone had built my shelves for me and I was ready to rock and roll!

Now a few weeks in, the office is still a mess as I arrange and rearrange items on the shelf but I'm starting to turn my thoughts towards decor. I have one painting already hanging (an original piece by Shannon Moyer-Szemenyei from SweetStellas). I know I will need bulletin boards or magnetic white boards for the various pieces of paper and notes on projects on the go. This time though, I want to make the space more inviting. More Inspiring!

Enter the wall art shop at Chapters with works from Minted. I love browsing these beautiful images and works of typography and have a few favourites in mind for my office.

IMG_20140502_193317

I can't wait to pick up a few of these pieces, and some beautiful frames and get them on the frame ledges above my desk!

What else would you add to make a space both efficient and inspiring? I'd love to hear your thought so jot them down in the comments below.

Behind the Lens: Dreaming of the Someday Studio & Gallery

You Might Say That I'm a Dreamer - John Lennon

Okay, anyone who knows me knows one thing....I'm a dreamer!

I dream big dreams for myself and for the others around me. I do it all day long.

Every once in a while though, one of these dreams doesn't just pass by like daydreams so often do. It sticks. It stays in the back of my mind. Living, Breathing, and Growing there.

This is how my dream studio (the 'someday' studio) came to be.

As a photographer, I dream of having a space to showcase my work, welcome new faces, create artwork, and celebrate the life and love of others through my photography everyday.

When I first started to dream of my own space I started small. A small reception area with a few images on the wall, a comfy couch to sit in, and maybe a small desk for the assistant I'd someday have greeting clients as they arrived. These dreams were small and came and went without too much extra thought.

Then one day, while discussing the idea with my spouse, he came out and said...."with a gallery space right?"

Just like that, it went from small day dream to complete obsession. Why not have a gallery to showcase not only my work but the art of other photographers and artists in the area? Would we offer a workshop space too? A studio for rent? Pretty soon this thing was massive! An art gallery, a teaching classroom or two, offices, multiple studios...it just grew and grew with all the potential!

After a few days of this madness, I began to reign it in a bit. What did I really want? What would be essential to having my business serve my clients and my staff in the way I dreamed? How could I create the experience I dreamed of providing my clients. And from here the someday studio and gallery were born.

I began with a list of things that would help me meet my clients needs. Then, a list of things I needed to do my job well for clients. Then, a list of the ways I could step up my clients experience and meet the image I have imagined for my photography on both the wedding & portrait, as well as, the fine art sides.

This list became bigger ideas. The ideas became a floor plan. And now, a little over a year later, this dream has grown to something so real that I can tell you the look, the feel, even the smells of the place. I know the colours the walls will be painted. The furniture for each space within it. The books on my shelves. The fabric on the sofa, the curtains and more.

Today I sit here with a vision of what my studio and gallery will be, and it's so real that I know that someday isn't really that far away!

Inspiration Infusion - Sebastian & Urban Barn

Urban Barn Creative Director & Head Buyer Sebastian- London, Ontario Sneak Peek - Rebecca Nash Photography Aug2013_2

Last month I posted a little info from the sneak peek of the Urban Barn location that just opened here in London, Ontario. (Check out the original post - Decor Inspiration Overload at the Urban Barn London Sneak Peek)

This month I'm excited to share a few more photos and some of the stories and insights that were shared with me on this visit. It gives me a glimpse into a company I'm thrilled to be following and hopefully that you will love following too.

Things I learned about Sebastian, Creative Director & Head Buyer for Urban Barn...

- Sebastian is Canadian born and raised. Born in Montreal and now a resident of the beautiful city of Vancouver

- One of his favourite places to visit is Thailand because of the kind people. He loves to indulge in cooking classes, massages, and a good manicure and pedicure while he's there.

- Sebastian and I found common ground when we discussed trips to Spain (one of my favourite places in the world). When visiting Spain Sebastian loves spending time in Barcelona where there's history, culture, good food, and more always close by. You can do it all!

- Sebastian finds inspiration all around him but especially in design & fashion. Case in point, one of the area rugs currently in store was inspired by a dress Sebastian saw a woman wearing while traveling. Sebastian approached the woman explaining who he was and asked to photograph her dress. As he says...he still hasn't heard from her asking for royalties.

Things I learned about Urban Barn...

- Floor lamps have been a big hit

- Everything is made in Canada! (Hooray!)

- All the couches are available as you see them but they are customizable too. Want a sleeper sofa? They can do that. Want to change the size? They can do that too. Different colour or fabric? Absolutely!

Are there limits to what's possible? Of course...I didn't find any magic wands but these guys can help you make your seating work for you in a big way.

- The grey stain has become very popular on their wood products. I can totally understand this one - I love the modern vintage feel of the grey. It fits in perfectly with the vibe of so much of their furniture.

- They created a line for the man den with a more masculine feel. Don't confuse this with the man cave. The Man Den is a little more chic, a little more polished.

- Urban Barn has become known for their accents including laughing buddhas, and the hoot stool.

Ideas and inspiration from my visits...

- I'm not crazy to love the teal & purple combo...there's even a beautiful collection at urban now! Think couches, chairs, pillows, napkins, bedding, accents, and more

- Personality and person beliefs can come together and be truly beautiful! Take a look at all the reclaimed wood, the recycled glass that looks so gorgeous! The geek chic pillows, the rock'n'roll accents, the variety of artwork that all come together to create a room with style and personality.

- Modern Vintage can include everything from the materials to the final styling just like my contemporary elegance portraiture.

Wedding Wednesday: Stary Lights

Vintage Inspired - Romantic - Unique

These are all words that I use to describe my photography but how do you create that a wedding day?

There are many inspirations available online (I'm a pinterest addict and follow as many wedding magazines, designers, decorators as possible) but here's just one more. I love this take on vintage and romance in the details.

How do you add personality to your wedding day details?

Wedding Wednesday: Adding a Pop of Colour

Good Morning!

I saw this photo on Pinterest and my mind started racing! This isn't something difficult to make (or expensive) but right away the ideas started flowing...

  1. Head Table Background
  2. Photo Booth Background
  3. Centerpiece Accents on Hurricane Glasses or Hanging Out of Vases
  4. Shower Decorations

How would you use these on your wedding day?

Do You Showcase Your Artwork With Style?

There's no question that I'm passionate about Photography. This is what I do! This is what I love! This is how I celebrate life! Does this sound familiar? You pick out a photographer, you both spend a great deal of time and energy getting the experience just right, and you chose to invest in the artwork you've created together. Then, you take these beautiful pieces of personal photographic art home and it sits in the packaging it came in while you figure out what to do with it.

Here's my solution for you - Custom Framing!

I absolutely love the personality of these beautiful handmade Canadian frames.

The next time you are celebrating with beautiful photographic art here's what I want to do for you

1) Come into your home (in person or virtually) & help you choose a location to showcase your new artwork

2) Design a wall display that fits your decor & style

3) Help you selecting the most complimentary wardrobe for everyone involved

4) Then, and only then, bring you in studio (or on location) and shoot to fill those frames with the perfect artwork for you and your home

Which of these frames do you love most and where would you put it?

Renovation & Renewal: Month Two - Home

It's month two and more changes are coming!

This month I'm still looking at the Studio Space. I spend a fair bit of time in my office and studio, as do my clients, so it's important to me that it gives a great impression.

This week I've been traveling and had the opportunity to get into new surroundings (and stores) for added inspiration. This inspiration has lead to new ideas of what I want my studio to be.

Now here are the changes I can't wait to start making to The Home Studio: - Remove the Dark Green Carpet and Replace with a light toned laminate or hardwood flooring - Paint! The black walls help to prevent extra light bouncing around but it's so dark! I'm looking at going to a light grey to lighten it up (if I start adding too much colour it does funny things to peoples skin tones) - New couch or slipcover - looking at a nice ivory or linen colour. Something light and neutral - Bright textured/patterned throw pillows on the couch (pillows say polish, fun, and comfort to me) - Replace the wood table with a nice glass coffee table for extra lightness - Get some framed work, an Uppercase living quote, and decorative pieces up on the walls - Pick up some small decor items to add life to the space - And so much more!

And what wishlist would be complete without outlining the someday dream. Here's Mine!

The Dream Studio: - Large exhibition space to showcase my own work but also other local artists & photographers - Office space with printing, framing, and work spaces as well as a reading corner - Dressing Room & Bathroom for clients (think old hollywood style - Vanities, couches, Clothing Racks, etc - Large Studio with Large Windows for Natural Light work (and a way to block the light too when needed) plus prop storage space (maybe a separate room) - Lounge area (couches, coffee tables, comfy chairs, table & chairs set etc) for consultations & ordering sessions. - Glass walls for a more open and bright feel

Do you have a room like this in your house? A room that you have you wishlist for now but your dream list for someday? Tell me all about it in the comments below!

Wedding Wednesday: Modern Romance

In a world of practicality and minimalism I happily declare...I am for Romance, for Elegance, for Fantasy & Fairy Tales. I am a hopeless romantic.
This week I wanted to share my vision of Modern Romance, Fantasy, and Elegance. Now I ask, is this your version of Modern Romance? If not, I want to hear about your vision of Modern Romance & Elegance!

Renovation & Renewal - Month One: Home - Part 2

Okay so remember that DIY project I did with the Mason Jars? I absolutely love them! They make a great addition to the home studio and really liven things up.

After making this project last week though, I kept looking at them and thinking something was missing.  I finally figured it out! They are awesome on their own but with a little help from some kraft paper, ribbon, and eco friendly stamps I could really personalize them to me and my business.

I admit to having a rather large collection of scrapbooking items, and among those items are a variety of stamps. I love the look of a rubber stamped image (especially if you go light on the ink for an vintage feel) or beautifully embossed image (with a little texture & shine). I used a bit of both to create the personal touch.

The result? Beautiful hand stamped tags which show some things that matter to me.

Love, Dream, Celebrate, Create

What do you think? How's your favourite way to use your rubber stamps?

Renovation & Renewal in 2013

It's a new year, and at the beginning of the year I knew this was going to be a year of change. One of the biggest things I wanted to change was my body. No this isn't about poor me I'm fat. This is about the way I feel (though losing weight always feels good too).

Looking back just a few years ago, I felt different. I woke up energized and ready for the day. I felt optimistic, strong, healthy. I drove my friends and co-workers crazy (in the best sort of way) with my tireless energy and optimism. I slept soundly every night.

Now, a few short years later...I have trouble getting out of bed. I feel slugish all day long. I lack the energy and enthusiasm most days that was a cornerstone of who I was. I suffer from frequent headaches and an additional 20 some odd pounds of laziness and junk food around my midsection. I sleep poorly at night.

As I type this I am reminded of just how much of a difference there is. Many things have happened during these years. I met and fell in love with an amazing man who has supported me and my beautiful daughter. I bought my own house, and then sold it to share a home with my boyfriend as a family. I began my own business. So many wonderful things.

However, there is always the downs also...my business did not thrive as quickly as I had hoped. My spouse received a layoff notice. I started part-time work on the side. I stopped working out. I stopped my healthier eating habits. I was hit with health issues. Stress became an even more significant part of both mine and my families daily life.

There are some things I cannot change, but there are many things I can.

This year it's time for renovation and renewal of so many areas of my life including my health (healthy eating & fitness), my business (new focused direction & renewed passion), my home (my sanctuary of family), and my relationships (with my daughter, my spouse, and myself).

Join me as I share my journey in all these areas with both my triumphs and my failures and the realizations I know will come along the way.

Wedding Wednesday: Immersed Centre Pieces

When it comes to floral arrangements and center pieces for your reception everyone has an opinion! There are traditional floral decors, there are candle and mirror displays, and the list goes on and on! Today I want to share one of my personal favorites for a more traditional wedding...flowers or twigs submerged in water!
First Decision is always what to submerge...if you love a floral motif that ties in to the bouquets Calla Lillies and Orchids lend themselves extremely well. If however, you love something more earthy and natural, twigs add a fabulous texture to the centerpieces.

When you're looking at these immersed arrangements you have many options. These can be done in a single large vase, uniform sized vases lined up side by side,  or multiple heights of thin vases grouped together like these displays.

I love all these beautiful creations! Considering using a combination of crystals and candles in and/or around the vases to create an amazing, romantic feel to the reception as the lights go down. It's all about modern elegance with these immersed arrangements!
